NOVA Pickups custom winds a pickup for us that can produce both, a balanced clean tone by rolling off the guitar volume and achieve the vintage high-gain preamp killer sound by turning up the volume pot.

In the 70s, guitarists would modify their super distortion pickups by changing the magnets to achieve a bigger dynamic range while retaining the power of overwound high-gain pickups. We aimed to revive that idea and take it a few steps further with the use of modern magnets.

Essentially, it captures the old-school 70s and 80s high-gain sound before amps had 30 channels. With the guitar volume turned up fully, it boosts the amp like crazy, but not too much – just the perfect big push that works seamlessly with driven tube amps.

If you roll down the volume knob, you get a compressed clean tone. With an added boost pedal or fuzz pedal, you have the complete bandwidth of gain range that ever existed. It works perfectly with pedals, never sounding too flabby and remains very bright in the highs without being harsh – it’s just powerful.

If you love the blast that a high-impedance overwound pickup gives you but always thought of it as a one-trick pony, this might change your mind. Due to the neodymium magnet, the SUPER NOVA is very dynamic. It is responsive to both quiet and loud playing. Additionally, it has a vintage look (slightly aged) so it doesn’t come off too new, blending seamlessly with a loved and well-played guitar.
